Gisele Bündchen Apologises Following Comments About Instagram Models

Brazilian model Gisele Bündchen has taken to her Twitter to publicly apologise for her comments about Instagram models during an interview with Vogue magazine.

Bündchen graces the cover of Vogue’s July issue in which she took part in a feature about the connection between fashion and the environment. Of course, the social media age came up and Bündchen said she was not a major Instagram fan.

As it turns out, Bündchen’s Instagram account was created by her younger sister – an account the supermodel prefers to use for more sunsets rather than selfies.

Bündchen told Vogue:

“It’s not my generation—I have to be honest about that. I’m older, wiser. If I had to promote myself in the way girls modelling now have to do, forget it. I wouldn’t do it.”

Her comments attracted backlash so Bündchen posted an apology because she believes her words were taken out of context:

“I’m sorry that my words in my most recent Vogue article were misunderstood. My intention was simply to express that I come from an older generation and am not technologically savvy. I admire the younger generation and their skill to manage all the added demand of social media. I certainly never feel that I am wiser than anyone, and I believe that we are all learning.”

Fans of the former Victoria’s Secret model have supported her saying there was no need to apologise as the majority understood her meaning.

One user commented “Of course we know what you meant. New models today have it written in their contracts to post pics of themselves. It’s not your generation.” Another wrote “I’m from a generation older than you… Learning to communicate on social media is hard. You lose the nuances of talking. Young folks don’t seem to understand this.”
