‘Ghostbusters’ Director Paul Feig Has Had It With “Assholes” Piling On The Film

The upcoming reboot of Ghostbusters has attracted a disproportionate amount of internet vitriol, based pretty much entirely on the fact that it dares to reimagine a beloved ’80s comedy with a cast of all-female leads.
Last week, the Ghostbusters trailer became one of YouTube‘s top 100 most disliked videos, with an organised campaign of people trashing the still-unreleased film as “feminazi” propaganda, and going as far as to make death threats against director Paul Feig.
(The internet: still an eminently f’kn classy place).
Feig gave an interview to the New York Daily News this week, and has apparently reached breaking point with the negativity directed at him and the movie’s cast, telling the paper: “Geek culture is home to some of the biggest assholes I’ve ever met in my life.”
Railing against the attacks from people who apparently, genuinely believe that Ghostbusters now has girls’ germs, he said:
“I don’t care what shape or size or colour or anything [the actors] are. I live or die on what things are funny and whether or not people will be entertained by them.”
It’s not the first time the Freaks & Geeks creator has lost his cool with the internet’s dickery, at one point telling a detractor to “go fuck yourself” after months of “misogyny and insults”:

Ghostbusters is in cinemas July 14th.
