Georgie Gardner Announces She’s Leaving The Today Show

After seven years at the desk, journalist Georgie Gardner has announced she will be departing The Today Show to explore broader career opportunities, as well as dedicating more time to her family. Gardner made the announcement on this morning’s edition of the Nine Network‘s breakfast show.
An emotional Gardner made the live announcement, stating: “I wanted to announce to you today that I’m going to be finishing up on The Today Show. I’ve given this a lot of consideration, obviously. But the time has come. I make this announcement with a very heavy heart because you (the Today Show cast and crew) are my family. But I’m not leaving the Nine Network, that’s the good news. We all know that this show; the hours are gruelling, you have to be extremely committed, and you’re all family, but I feel that I actually need to give back to my own family a little bit more. So that’s really what I’ve based the decision on. It’s been amazing. It’s been the most amazing career highlight.
The Nine Network has revealed that Gardner will continue with her role at Nine News Sydney, as well as taking up the co-host chair at Mornings when current host Sonia Krueger leaves to take up her Big Brother duties later in the year. Gardner will also be contributing to 60 Minutes.
