George R. R. Martin Cares Not That People Think Game of Thrones Is Violent

‘Zero’ is not just a numerical value of what Jon Snow knows, but it also the number of fucks George R. R. Martin gives over countless op-eds crying that ‘Game of Thrones‘ is too violent towards women.

(See: Sansa’s rape, Cersei’s rape, Daenerys‘ rape, Brienne’s almost rape, dozens of nameless female characters raped, beaten, killed… alright, calm the fuck down, George. And producers. Half of that shit wasn’t even in the books.)

He laid down that ‘Game of Thrones’ is rooted in a realistic portrayal of the Middle Ages, not the so-called ‘Disneyland Middle Ages’ where knights kill the bad guys and don’t rape anyone afterwards.

“I’m writing about war, which what almost all epic fantasy is about. But if you’re going to write about war, and you just want to include all the cool battles and heroes killing a lot of orcs and things like that and you don’t portray [sexual violence], then there’s something fundamentally dishonest about that. Rape, unfortunately, is still a part of war today.”

Exactly.

“Now there are people who will say to that, ‘Well, he’s not writing history, he’s writing fantasy – he put in dragons, he should have made an egalitarian society.’ Just because you put in dragons doesn’t mean you can put in anything you want. If pigs could fly, then that’s your book.”

Also he hates you and thinks your ideas are crap.

“I want to portray struggle. Drama comes out of conflict. If you portray a utopia, then you probably wrote a pretty boring book.”
