George Clooney Compared The Hounding Of Meghan Markle To Diana’s Death

Fair to say the British press’s absolute obsession with covering every speck of dirt Meghan Markle treads on is approaching levels of pure insanity, and the tide against the tabloids is slowly starting to turn. George Clooney has noticed it. And he has some thoughts on the matter. Only the way he managed to word them was ah… more than just a little off.

Speaking at a recent Television Critics Association conference in California, where he was promoting his upcoming Hulu series Catch 22, Clooney asserted the pregnant Duchess of Sussex was being “pursued and vilified” by members of the British (and Global) press, comparing the treatment to that of Princess Diana, before ominously adding “we’ve seen how that ends.”

I do want to say, they’re just chasing Meghan Markle everywhere, she’s been pursued and vilified.

She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was and its history repeating itself. We’ve seen how that ends.

Diana, like we need to remind you, tragically died in a car crash while fleeing pursuing paparazzi in Paris in 1997.

The Big Cloon Dog certainly has a point here in that the press coverage of the Duchess is bordering on the obscene, particularly as the arrival of the newest royal childe draws near. But that’s certainly a heavy-handed way of putting it, to put it lightly.

Clooney also referenced the leaked letter Meghan sent her estranged father Thomas in August of last year, which Thomas himself subsequently sent to press.

I can’t tell you how frustrating that is, just seeing them broadcast a letter from a daughter to a father, she’s getting a raw deal there and I think it’s irresponsible and I’m surprised by that.

Kensington Palace is reportedly considering legal action over the leak.
