Game Winning Dive Ruins A-League Grand Final

It hurts to lose any final (just ask Miami’s Chris Bosh) but the A-League grand finals which played out between the Perth Glory and the Brisbane Roar Sunday night might go down as one of the most egregious fuck ups in Australian sports history.

Here’s what happened.

The scores are level at 1-1 deep into stoppage time when Brisbane’s Besart Berisha works his way into the penalty area, throws his body to the ground and appeals for a spot kick after what looked to be minimal contact on Perth’s behalf. Replays would later show that his fall was the result of an air swing. AN AIR SWING! The ref, who must now have some kind of WA bikie bounty on his head, then awarded a 95th minute spot kick which Berisha converted to seal a 2-1 victory – and the championship.

In essence, Perth’s entire season was foiled by an air swing, phantom contact and a referee who was in no position to make the decision. Berisha then upped the douche factor by celebrating the decision like he’d already won the final. WOSRT. DUDE. EVER.
