‘Four Weddings And A Funeral’ Is Being Rebooted For TV By Mindy Kaling

Mindy Kaling is developing a TV anthology series based off one of the most iconic romcoms of the 90s: Four Weddings and a Funeral.

In case anyone who’s reading this was born in 2000 or later, Four Weddings and a Funeral came out at the height of Hugh Grant’s popularity as the charming, befuddled, romantic lead. It’s the reason why so many people are intimately familiar with W.H. Auden‘s poem, Stop All The Clocks (or Funeral Blues), despite not being particular poetry buffs, and it also gave us the worst Andie MacDowell line on record: “Oh, is it still raining? I hadn’t noticed.”

As far as romantic comedies go, it’s a classic, right up there with Bridget Jones Diary and When Harry Met Sally. And usually, we’d be annoyed that yet another popular film was getting remade, but in this case it’s MINDY KALING and the premise actually sounds dope as hell.

Basically: the series will follow a group of friends as their lives intersect at – like the name suggests – four weddings, and one funeral. Each season will focus on a different story arc, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which makes it sound like each season will revisit the same events, just from a different angle.

Richard Curtis, who wrote the original film (and is also behind the sanitised version of Britain you know from Love Actually, Notting Hill, and the aforementioned Bridget Jones), will be back on as executive producer.

We’ve got no word yet on how closely the TV show will follow the plot of the original, or how you can replace one of the most iconic casts of the early 90s…

…but honestly, if Mindy Kaling’s behind it, we’re on board.
