Former Emo Tweens, Sullenly Rejoice: An ‘Emily The Strange’ Movie Is Coming

If you were even slightly bordering on punk/emo vibes as a tweenager, then chances are, you had ‘Emily the Strange’ merchandise.
REMEMBER?!
This writer – who very regularly was told to remove her heavily-applied black eyeliner at school – is happy to admit that she had a pencil case, badges, sneakers, and much, much more emblazoned with Emily and her very beautiful and sullen cats – Sabbath, Mystery, Nee Chee (WHICH I MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE JUST REALISED WAS A PLAY ON NIETSCHKE HOLY SHIT DUH), and Miles
So now, at the tender age of our early/mid-twenties, the morose, misunderstood tweens inside of us all will be happy to know: they are making an Emily the Strange movie.
Originally created by skateboarder Rob Reger in the early 1990s, Emily the Strange began as a singular skateboard design that soon turned into a multimillion $$$ business, which includes comics and books, fashion, toys, school supplies and accessories.
The Emily feature film will be produced by Dark Horse Entertainment at Amazon Studios. Reger will serve as a producer.
They tried to make a live-action Emily movie sometime around 2005, and Chloe Grace Moretz was rumoured to be attached – it fell through, and when the rights lapsed, Dark Horse began shopping it.
Now, it’s said that this version will be cartoon, in order to retain the authenticity of Emily and ever-gloomy edginess.
FUCK. YES.
