First Trailer With Michelle Williams As Marilyn Monroe

Silly Lindsay Lohan thinks she is the Marilyn Monroe of our generation but thank god casting directors don’t agree. In My Week With Marilyn, one of two forthcoming movies based on the tragic actress, the ultimate iconic blonde is played by the consistently wonderful Michelle Williams (Blonde with Naomi Watts is the other).

Set in 1956, the movie tells the true story of Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne) a young guy keen to get a break in the film industry who lands a shit kicking job on the set of The Prince and the Showgirl. There he meets the stars of the film Sir Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Branagh) and Marilyn Monroe (Williams), who was also on honeymoon with her new husband, the playwright Arthur Miller (Dougray Scott).

As Catherine Hepburn in The Aviator Cate Blanchett proved that it is possible to play the role of a real life icon without getting it horribly wrong or turning it into a horrible caricature. Michelle Williams is so adorable and talented and tasteful… surely Marilyn’s precious memory has been placed in good hands.

Dominic Cooper, Julia Ormond, Judi Dench and Emma Watson round out the predominantly British cast.
