First Look At Nicole Kidman As Princess ‘Grace Of Monaco’

Nicole Kidman will take on her most Oscar bait-y role in years as beacon of Aryan perfection, Grace Kelly, in the pending big screen biopic Grace Of Monaco. The movie focuses on a specific time in the life of the actress-turned-monarch charting her involvement with Monaco’s Prince Rainier III and France’s Charles De Gaulle dispute over tax laws in the early 1960s. Ooooh tax disputes. Sounds glam!

The first official images of Kidman as Princess Grace have been released, and she certainly does convey the serene poise that earned Kelly the mantle “Her Serene Highness” by her adoring Monaco subjects. Incidentally, Kidman and Kelly both earned Academy Awards for acting roles that required them to deglamourise their naturally lovely appearances – Kidman as Virginia Woolf in The Hours (2002) and Kelly for The Country Girl (1954 film).

The movie is being helmed by Frenchman Olivier Dahan, the man responsible for directing Marion Cotillard in her extraordinary Oscar-winning performance as Edith Piaf in La Vie en rose, so there’s no doubting his ability to bring an icon to life on screen.

With Nicole in the title role and a fantastic supporting cast that includes Frank Langella, Parker Posey, Derek Jacobi, Paz Vega, Roger Ashton-Griffiths, Milo Ventimiglia and Tim Roth Grace Of Monaco should be one worth watching out for. A release date hasn’t been confirmed but it’s expected to land in theatres around Christmas 2013.
