Finding Dory Makes Humungo Splash With Record-Breaking US$136M Opening

We predicted it: now ‘Finding Dory’ has officially broken the record for biggest domestic opening ever for an animated film, raking in US$136.2M over in ‘Murica.
Overseas, the Ellen DeGeneres-led sequel grossed US$50M; US$7.6M came from right here in ‘Straya, while the Chinese spent US$17.5M on tix to see Dory and her m8s.
The film left The Rock and Kevin Hart‘s ‘Central Intelligence’ for dead with its US$34.5M takings (though still solid, for a film that’s not Disney-Pixar‘s most anticipated release of the last 13 years).
This is a pretty big deal, as the previous crown-holder for top animated domestic launch – Shrek the Third – has held its own since 2007, when it opened with US$121.6M.
