Fate: Winx Saga Has Been Renewed For S2 & Here’s Hoping They Fix Their Diversity Problem

After a nail-biting wait for Winx Club fans, Netflix has confirmed that season 2 of Fate: Winx Saga is officially happening, which is the most magical news I’ve heard all week.

The streaming giant today announced that an eight-episode second season is on its way, one month after the first season dropped and wowed audiences.

Fate: Winx Saga follows five fairy friends studying at Alfea, the fairy version of Hogwarts, pretty much.

The series stars Chilling Adventures of Sabrina alum Abigail Cowen as fiery lead fairy Bloom along with Hannah van der Westhuysen, Precious Mustapha, Eliot Salt and Elisha Applebaum.

Deadline reports that season 2 of Fate: Winx Saga is set to begin production this year in Ireland. Netflix also revealed that casting announcements are to come, which means we can expect some new characters to be joining next season.

I have a hunch that one of said new characters will be Flora the plant-loving fairy who was controversially omitted from the series. In the animation, Flora is a Latina gal, but in the live-action, the role of the earthy goddess was given to Terra, portrayed by Eliot Salt (a white, British actress). Meanwhile Musa, who is Asian in the animation, was also played by a white, British actress, Elisha Applebaum.

This drew a heap of backlash from fans who felt that Netflix had white-washed the show.

Fate: Winx Saga lead actress Abigail Cowen addressed the backlash in an interview with The Wrap where she stated that she believes “it’s important that we are having these conversations.”

“I’m not part of the casting process, but I do think, if the series does go to a second season, I think hopefully these concerns are something that will be addressed,” she told the publication.

She added, “If we are lucky enough to get a second season, I think Flora would be brought in and I would definitely welcome that.”

Showrunner Brian Young later revealed in a Netflix featurette that Terra is Flora’s cousin, so hopefully she’ll appear in the next season.

Fate: The Winx Club hit Netflix on January 22 and believe me when I say me and boyfriend watched the entire fkn thing in one night. We were so obsessed, in fact, that we started watching the cartoon series which, BTW, is also available on the streaming service.
