Ewan McGregor Takes The Piss Out Of ‘Beauty And The Beast’ Naysayers

Disney‘s decision to portray Josh Gad‘s simpering sidekick LeFou as gay in the upcoming ‘Beauty and the Beast‘ remake has rankled a few feathers in the less tolerant parts of the world.

An Alabama drive-in has straight-up refused to show it, Russia has given it the unreasonably high rating of 16+, and Malaysia only agreed to let it play if “a gay moment” was censored; Disney responded by postponing the screening indefinitely.

Ewan McGregor, on the other hand, is taking the absolute piss. The Scottish actor – who plays the candlestick Lumiére – appeared on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert‘ to promote both the wholesome Disney flick and his recently-released film about ageing heroin-addicts, ‘T2: Trainspotting‘.

Inevitably, the conversation rolled around to the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ backlash.

“There’s a lot of gay sex in it,” McGregor deadpanned. “There’s a lot of gay sex in this cartoon. If you live anywhere near Alabama, you should not go and see this film. What would Jesus think?”

Colbert attempted to make some sense of it. “There were rumours that LeFou had gay yearnings for Gaston (Luke Evans) or something, it turns out he dances with a guy in a dress in one of the scenes, right? ” he said. “That’s the whole thing.”

“No, I think he’s a gay character,” Ewan replied. (Director Bill Condon has said that LeFou is someone who is slowly realising his feelings for Gaston, and while there is “an exclusive gay moment”, it’s unlikely to be a gag about a dude in drag.) “It’s just like – he’s a gay character. It’s 2016, for fuck’s sake.”

McGregor’s current press tour isn’t limited to the late night TV circuit. The bloke also stopped by Reddit for an AMA earlier this week, answering a delightful question about his frequently-appearing peen:
