‘Wild, Wild Country’ Producers Return To Netflix For Collar Bomb Crime Doco

Netflix has revealed some absolutely brilliant news for fans of Wild, Wild Country: no, the Rajneeshee movement isn’t attempting to found a new city in rural America, and no, Ma Anand Sheela isn’t trying to start her own off-shoot cult. But the show’s producers Mark and Jay Duplass are handling a brand new true crime series focussed on yet another intensely compelling and deeply disturbing corner of American criminality.

The streaming giant has announced the pair executive produce Evil Genius: The True Story of America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist, which follows the grisly saga of Brian Wells. It involves pizza, robbery, plus a casual collar bomb. If you’re the kind of person who likes to learn about insane crimes from 2003 in exhaustive television series, we suggest you Google absolutely nothing about this one beforehand. Just don’t do it. Wait for the show, which is directed by Barbara Schroeder and Trey Borzillieri, to arrive on May 11.

Also coming up: The Staircase, which delves into the insanely suspicious death of Kathleen Peterson, and the subsequent trial of husband Michael Peterson – himself a crime writer. Directed by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, who was granted extensive access to the case, The Staircase is expected to debut late in the year.
