“Everything Is Not Coming Up Milhouse For Tony Abbott” Says Simpsons-Referencing Labor MP

There’s a Simpsons quote for basically every real-life situation, so it was really only a matter of time until one found its way into federal parliament.

In a speech yesterday in Parliament, Victorian MP Tim Watts cited a classic Simpsons gag to demonstrate the perceived dishonesty behind Abbott’s Temporary Budget Repair Levy.
He equates it to the ‘Temporary Refund Adjustment’ that Lisa tries to force on Americans in place of a massive tax hike in the episode where she becomes president.

I guess in this analogy, Tony Abbott would technically be Lisa and Senator Mathias Cormann would be Milhouse, but Watts probably figured that “everything is not coming up Milhouse for Mathias Cormann” didn’t have as sexy a ring to it.

This is either the best or worst moment in the history of Australian political discourse, depending on how you feel about The Simpsons and sassy Labor MPs.
