Even Andrew Lincoln Reckons His ‘Love Actually’ Schtick Was Weird & Creepy

Here’s one for rusted-on fans of problematic romantic comedies: Andrew Lincoln himself has admitted that yes, his turn in Love Actually really is a touch on the creepy side.

Over a decade after the film convinced a generation of lovelorn saps that rocking up outside an unrequited crush’s house with some shitty posters is an a-okay idea, Lincoln told Entertainment Weekly “the story is set up like a prism looking at all the different qualities of love.

“Mine was unrequited. So I got to be this weird stalker guy.”
Lincoln even had his reservations at the time. The 43-year-old said “I kept saying to [director Richard Curtis], ‘Are you sure I’m not going to come off as a creepy stalker?’”
The latter-day The Walking Dead star admitted a big part of why that role escaped scorn for so long was his youthful mug.

“I think it was decided that I looked quite innocent…

“I didn’t have facial hair or wrinkles back then – and I wasn’t starring on a zombie TV show. I didn’t look as, well, creepy as I do now.”
For those of y’all who are all about the creepiness, you’ll be stoked to recall Lincoln recently reprised his role opposite Keira Knightley and Chiwetel Ejiofor for Red Nose Day Actually, the spiritual sequel to the 2003 ensemble comedy.
It’s fifteen minutes long, which is probably just enough time to fully recognise the conflict between cute, innocent gestures of affection and straight-up harassing your pal’s partner:
