When the two biggest late night talk show hosts are both dudes named Jimmy – and the third, coming up close behind them, is another dude named James – it’s probably fairly easy to get them confused.
Such was the case with Emma Watson, whose first appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon was going really well, until she mixed him up with his competitor Jimmy Kimmel.
It was the first time they’d met, so to break the ice, Watson told Fallon that she loved his Halloween candy prank, referring to one of Kimmel’s signature bits, in which parents pretend to steal their kids’ Halloween haul and film the reaction.
There was an awkward silence, and after Fallon explained her mistake, Watson “died inside” and turned bright red. Fortunately, she was allowed to re-tape her entrance and start the interview over.
Several years later, Watson again appeared on The Tonight Show to promote her new film The Circle, and she and Fallon re-lived that painful moment from her first episode. Watch it below:
