Emma Watson Didn’t Mean For “Throwaway Comment” About Declaring Yrself Single To Go Viral

They say that life imitates art and much like Emma Watson’s iconic Harry Potter Hermione Granger, your girl’s shaking shit up and breaking down barriers, albeit without a wand, but just as powerfully, nonetheless.

Speaking to British Vogue in a recent interview, the activist discussed the benefits of being a single and independent woman in her late 20s.

“I never believed the whole ‘I’m happy single’ spiel, I was like ‘this is spiel, this is totally spiel,’” Watson told Paris Lees.

“It took me a long time, but I am very happy. I call it being ‘self-partnered.’”

The Little Women star said that she’d rather be “self-partnered” and that she’s “happy single,” which had fans raising their wands in admiration.

Watson has since admitted that it wasn’t her intention for the inspiring statement to go viral and that she was taken aback by the “crazy” reaction to the phrase, describing it as a “throwaway comment.”

Speaking to E!’s The Rundown on Snapchat, the actress said: “I’m so happy people feel empowered.”

“I literally said it as a throwaway comment thinking it would go no further.

“And then I woke up the next morning and my phone’s blowing up and I don’t know why and it’s all my friends messaging me being like, ‘self-partnered?’ This thing’s gone crazy.”

She also clarified that being “self-partnered” is not solely about being single.

“It’s much more about your relationship with yourself and the feeling of not somehow being deficient in some way because you’re not with someone,” she added.

Leave it to Emma Watson to ~accidentally~ inspire folks.
