Emma Stone To Gain Thirst For Dog Murder In ‘Cruella De Vil’ Origin Film

WELP. This is certainly a thing. Emma Stone, of all people, is set to star as Cruella De Vil, of all characters, in a live-action 101 Dalmatians adaptation that Disney is apparently hell-bent on pushing forward.

The House of Mouse is currently absolutely obsessed with taking their prior catalogue of animated classics and spinning them off into “live” “action” modern versions, and it would seem their Great Wheel of Remakes has finally landed on the Disney movie most reliant on the ever-present threat of dog murder, according to industry reports.

While Glenn Close played the infamous fur-obsessed villain in Disney’s 1996 live-action 101 Dalmatians movie, Stone’s turn at the De Vil wheel will reportedly veer away from the canine protagonists, with the film set to be more of an origin story that, get this, will be “set in the early 1980s with a punk vibe.” Which is a sentence that only boggles the mind harder the more you think about it.

I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie is said to be the latest director in talks to helm the film, after previous choice Alex Timbers (Mozart In The Jungle) withdrew due to scheduling issues.

So to recap this entire wild scenario quickly:

  • Emma Stone is playing Cruella De Vil.
  • It will be set in the 1980s.
  • It will involve the fur-frothing fashionista hell-bent on dog murder having a “punk vibe” about her.
  • It’s still somehow a Disney film.

Lord knows there aren’t too many more punk things than that ungodly concoction.
