We Made Elly Tell Us Exactly Why She Was So Fkn Suss About Abbie On ‘Bachie’

Elly Miles

Am I still absolutely quaking that Elly Miles went home on The Bachelor last night? Yes. But after speaking to her, I get it now. They just wouldn’t have worked out in the end. It’s fine, I’m fine. I’m totally fine. ANYWAY, Elly chatted to PEDESTRIAN.TV about the whole hoo-ha and even though it’s all “water under the bridge” now, Elly did share why she was so convinced Abbie was on The Bachelor for the wrong reasons, re: the last two episodes.

PTV: Can you take me through that final one-on-one time with Matt when you told him about Abbie? Do you still stand by what you said?

A: Do I stand by what I said? Look, I try and not get too caught up in the “hindsight”. At the time I thought I was doing the right thing and there’s no doubt that I was protective over Matt because I had such strong feelings for him at the time. But um, looking back and watching the show there’s no doubt that he has such a strong connection with Abbie and you can’t help who you’re falling for and I think at the end of the day, he’s just trying to figure out who he can have a future with.

PTV: When did you make your mind up about Abbie? Because as a viewer, it seemed kind of sudden that you suddenly had this tension with her but we’re obviously not getting the full picture here.

A: Yeah so I just started to distance myself from Abbie when there was a reoccurrence of situations where she was involved in the drama. I just didn’t want to be involved in that… next minute [laughs]. That was when I was a bit weary and that kind of energy, when there was a drama around, I just didn’t want to be around that.

PTV: In last night’s cocktail party you mentioned Abbie said some things in the house that made you question her being on The Bachelor? Could you share some examples?

A: There were comments made about wanting to go on Bachelor in Paradise, but in saying that so many people on The Bachelor go on BIP. But at the time I was like, ‘How can you want to be with someone when you’re talking about another TV show?’

PTV: Did you or any of the girls pull her up on this?

Nup. No.

PTV: What was your immediate reaction when Abbie got a rose before you?

A: I wasn’t really surprised. When she came back from that date it was clear they had a nice time together. There were no issues between them so I wasn’t surprised when she got a rose at all.

PTV: Were you genuinely blindsided when Matt didn’t give you a rose?

A: Yeah well look after the time Matt and I spent together after the chemistry date, a lot wasn’t shown. They can’t put everything in – I know that but we were together for over an hour there so I thought that I would be introducing him to my family like yeah, I was really shocked.

PTV: When Matt walked you out and said he made the decision based on a “strength of connection–

A: He also said that he had to really think about who he could picture a future with so I think we were too different at the end of the day. I don’t think our lives would’ve meshed as well as I would’ve liked it to.

A: He’s a city-slicker and I’m a country girl. City-slicker. [laughs]

A: In the moment I was shocked. The whole time I really kept my head out of the clouds because people were saying, “It’s you, it’s you, you’re the one.” And I would say, “Stop, no one knows who it is” and I guess the one time I thought “Christ, maybe it is [me] was after that [chemistry] date when we spent that time together.

PTV: And it seemed like a long goodbye, was there anything we missed?

A: Just more “I hope you find the love of your life” out of this and um, yeah, he sort of just waffled on a bit. [laughs] Just saying the usual breakup stuff.

PTV: So how did you feel seeing Abbie’s reaction to your exit last night?

A: It really didn’t bother me. We’ve spoken and we’re on really good terms and we know what was said in the mansion and whatnot and it’s just all a part of this crazy, stressful environment that we’re in so it doesn’t bother me. It’s hard to explain ‘coz I don’t think anyone can really get what it’s like unless you’ve been in there but it’s just all water under the bridge, and it’s all good.

PTV: So in saying that, I think it’s quite obvious that Abbie’s been pitched as the “villain” this season–

A: The poor thing. I don’t think anyone deserves the backlash she’s getting. It doesn’t matter how you come across on TV. She’s absolutely copping it and it’s horrible. It’s horrible to see the comments that come through. People have even sent me comments they have wanted to send to Abbie and just do not bring that to me because it’s bullying, it’s awful, and I don’t think it’s acceptable under any circumstances. Especially under a reality TV show that is questionable with what comes across.

A: It’s certainly been difficult on Abbie. The response she’s getting – she is such a strong person and I think if anyone had to cop this, um, I don’t know how to say this, but it’s Abbie. She’s witty, she can forge her way through it and be okay with it at the end. I have no doubt that it’s bloody tough, I know it is for her but I think she will be okay at the end of all of this. And I hope she is.
