In news that is surprisingly not a joke, Ellen DeGeneres has snapped up the People’s Choice Award for Best Daytime Talk Show and uhh, are you sure about that?
DeGeneres made headlines earlier this year after a Buzzfeed investigation revealed a number of allegations of workplace toxicity. But it appears not even complaints from employees can stop the daytime television host from taking out the top spot.
In her acceptance speech, Ellen thanked her staff for their hard work throughout the year.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you, from deep down in my heart, I thank you. I am not only accepting this award for myself, I’m accepting it on the behalf of my amazing crew, my amazing staff, who make this show possible,” she said. “They show up every single day, they give a 100 per cent of themselves, a 100 per cent of the time.
“That’s 250 people times 170 shows a year times 18 years, and if you carry the two and divide it by 11, my point is I love them all. And I thank them for what they do every single day to help that show be the best that we try to make it every single day.”
She also went on to thank her fans for sticking by her in what has been a tumultuous year for the woman who was once regarded as the “be kind lady” of Hollywood.
“I know this award comes from the people, I say thank you to the people. For all of my fans for supporting me, for sticking by me, I cannot tell you how grateful I am and what this means to me. It’s more than I can possibly tell you, especially right now,” she said. “I’m going to wipe it down with Lysol and put it on my shelf.”
Other nominees for the award included The Kelly Clarkson Show, The Wendy Williams Show and Red Table Talk, among others.
The news comes after Ellen Show staff called bullshit on Ellen’s apology during her season-opening monologue earlier this year.
