Please Enjoy Ellen & Dakota Johnson’s Gloriously Awkward Interview About A Bday Party Invite

I love Dakota Johnson, I also love Ellen DeGeneres, but what I love most on this glorious planet is any form of awkward social encounter. When all three of my loves happened to unify on a recent episode of The Ellen Show, I was absolutely thrilled.

Let’s walk through the situation, hand-in-hand.

Ellen begins by wishing Dakota a belated happy  30th birthday, before joking that she hadn’t been invited to the festivities.

“Actually, no, that’s not the truth, Ellen,” Dakota responds. “You were invited. Last time I was on the show, last year, you gave me a bunch of shit for not inviting you but I didn’t even know you wanted to be invited… I didn’t even know you liked me.”

“You’ve been on the show many times… and don’t I show like?” Ellen interjects.

“But I did invite you and you didn’t come,” says Dakota, in now one of the most gloriously awkward conversations on television.

Ellen’s producers ultimately chime in saying she’d had been out of town, before Ellen agrees: “Oh yeah I had that thing.”

Now, some sleuths on the internet have hypothesised that the ‘thing’ Ellen is referring to was actually that time she watched football with George Bush. This would make sense, given that the Dallas Cowboys/Green Bay Packers game took place on Sunday 6th October and Dakota’s birthday fell on the 4th, just two days prior. TEA.

Check out the interview, which also includes Dakota confessing that Tig Notaro is her favourite comedian, and not Ellen.

Well, there’s always next birthday, I guess.
