Dr Who Fans Uncover Over 100 Lost Episodes In Ethiopia

Fans of weirdly popular lo-fi-sci-fi rejoice! As the BBC’s cult series Dr Who approaches its 50th Anniversary of suggesting that a plunger attached to a small metal teepee is actually a nightmarish robot who presents a mortal threat to the safety of earth, 106 “lost episodes” dating back to the 1960’s have reportedly been uncovered in the Ethiopian Radio And Television Agency.

The UK’s Mirror reports that the BBC sold off loads of old footage, including the Dr Who episodes, decades ago and the BBC’s originals were lost or wiped clean (probably to make room for new episodes of Eastenders, innit). The episodes remained lost until “a group of dedicated Doctor Who fans tracked [them] down”, finding the tapes gathering dust in an office halfway around the world. The BBC is reportedly in negotiations to reacquire the episodes, and a digital remastering and broadcast of episodes that look and sound like this would be a likely outcome:
