Donald Glover Will Play A Young Lando In An Upcoming ‘Star Wars’ Prequel

It’s really happening, you guys!
Earlier today, a post to the official Star Wars website confirmed that Donald Glover has been cast in the role of a young Lando Calrissian in an upcoming stand-alone film, conforming months of rumours and speculation.
Glover will feature in the as-yet-untitled Han Solo movie, due for release in 2018,  alongside Alden Ehrenreich, who is set to play the role of Solo. “The smooth-talking smuggler is coming back to the big screen,” said Disney in its media release, adding:

“This new film depicts Lando in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld – years before the events involving Han, Leia, and Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back and his rise to Rebel hero in Return of the Jedi.”
The film will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are known for their work on comedies like The Lego Movie21 Jump Street and the Brooklyn Nine-Nine pilot. They praised the young actor, saying:

“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us. These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
Donald Glover, who can currently be seen in the hit FX series Atlanta, and who has a role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, had previously played it cool when talk of his involvement in a Star Wars prequel came up, saying only:
“Yep. There are rumors. I mean, I grew up on [Star Wars]. My dad was a big fan. I had all the toys when I was little. I had a Darth Vader with the lightsaber he has. It was cool. It’s a dynasty. It’s like the bible. I love that franchise.”
The untitled Han Solo film is currently in pre-production, and we are beyond keen for its eventual 2018 release.
