In Another Reason To Stan Dolly Parton, Her $1M Donation Has All-But Secured A COVID Vaccine

Dolly Parton

The COVID-19 vaccine is on the horizon, and in good time it will be ours. And who do we have to thank for this speedy research? Apparently, Dolly Parton, and the Dolly Parton COVID-19 Research Fund. We live in truly blissful times.

So why is everyone suddenly thanking Dolly for the cure to Covid? Well, it turns out that she may have played an instrumental part in the funding of the research. Side note: she’s also apparently funded the study of plasma treatments, so it’s fair to say that she’s an icon.

The Dolly Parton COVID-19 Research Fund, which was donated to the Vanderbilt Institute for Infection, Immunology and Inflammation at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, has been noted as being the final push needed towards breakthrough and has also been cited as supporting multiple research papers on COVID-19.

For a while now, Vanderbilt have played an important role in supporting the studies of biotech firm Moderna, who just recently announced that it has created a 94.5% effective vaccine against COVID-19. According to The Guardian, Moderna’s breakthrough was directly supported by the donation of US$1m by Parton to support the cause, which she made to Vanderbilt back in April.

“My longtime friend Dr. Naji Abumrad, who’s been involved in research at Vanderbilt for many years, informed me that they were making some exciting advancements towards the research of the coronavirus for a cure,” she wrote on Twitter.

“I am making a donation of $1 million to Vanderbilt towards that research and to encourage people that can afford it to make donations.”

Abumrad and Parton became friends after she was treated at Vanderbilt after a car accident.

The donations have also aided in the research of convalescent plasma study, which is the treating of infected individuals with the plasma of those who have developed antibodies against coronavirus. So basically, Dolly is doing the lord’s work, but who is really surprised.

Fans of Dolly have naturally raced to Twitter to show their support for the icon, celebrating the fact that she has cured Covid. (She didn’t, but she also kinda did? So like, they’re not wrong.)

If you need me, I’ll be praying to Dolly for the end of coronavirus.
