Disney’s New Streaming Service Will Reboot ‘Home Alone’ & ‘Night At The Museum’

The upcoming Disney+ streaming service – the House of Mouse’s soon-to-be-unleashed factory of new content – is looming as a behemoth easily on-par with Netflix in terms of original output. And the catalogue of titles the service plans on breathing new life into keeps expanding virtually by the minute. The latest cabs off the rank? Home Alone and Night At The Museum, both of which are now apparently in line for reboots via the platform.

Disney big boss Bob Iger confirmed this morning that the two beloved franchises, along with Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Cheaper By The Dozen, will be revived in some form or fashion as straight-to-service content.

This is part of a larger push by Disney to utilise the vast library of film and TV content it now has at its disposal ever since the giant corporation absorbed 20th Century Fox.

In addition, Iger confirmed that Disney+ will – at least in the US – bundle together several streaming services, including ESPN+ and Hulu, into one package with a price tag of US$12.99 per month. Though obviously that could present as a vastly different offering to Australian customers once the service arrives here.

Within its first year, Disney+ will reportedly contain well over 400 movies and 7,500 TV episodes in its fairly impressive library, which includes titles from all the Disney-owned subsidiaries like Marvel Studios and LucasFilm.

Coincidentally enough, the announcement of the Home Alone reboot comes on the exact 10th anniversary of the death of John Hughes, who passed away on August 6th back in 2009.

There’s no word as to what form any of the proposed reboots will take, but fingers can only be crossed.

Disney+ launches in the US on November 12th this year, however due to existing distribution deals an Australian expansion is not expected any time soon.
