‘Difficult People’ Trailer Lands, Is Closest Parks & Rec Replacement We’ll Get

So many things made ‘Parks and Recreation’ the pure bundle of unbridled joy that it was. The terms “Andy Dwyer” and “Jean Ralphio” are reasons enough to label Parks and Rec one of the greatest shows we’ve ever seen.

But Parks and Rec gifted us something that’s depressingly rare for sitcoms: Michael Schur and Greg Daniels created a series about *genuinely nice* people doing *genuinely heartwarming* things. Surprisingly groundbreaking, genre-bending stuff.

So, billing the forthcoming series Difficult People as “the new Parks and Rec” might seem off, considering the heavy injection of snark that Hulu’s newest offering brings. But the fantastic double whammy of Billy Eichner and Julie Klausner having their patience tested and teetering on going full Craig is nothing but a beautiful, and an extremely bloody promising sight.

Difficult People might not play off the same humour that made Leslie Knope iconic; but God DAMN. It’s been five months since Parks left us, and this is the closest thing that might fill the Pawnee-sized hole in our hearts.

The onslaught of comedian cameos. The “Executive Producer Amy Poehler“. The Billy Eichner. The everything.

Difficult People debuts on Hulu on August 5, AKA five sleeps.
