Did ‘Saturday Night Live’ Plagiarise Its Edgy ‘Draw Muhammad’ Sketch?

Saturday Night Live usually plays it pretty safe, which is why it’s always an unexpected delight when the show goes edgy – something it did, and then some, in this weekend’s Reese Witherspoon-hosted episode.

What started out as a pretty stock standard game show parody escalated fast when contestants were handed a pen and asked to draw the Prophet Muhummad. You can see how it all played out below:
The sketch was praised by many for its ballsy handling of a controversial topic, however, some sources have pointed out that it’s similar – maybe a little too similar – to a recent bit from Canadian comedy show This Hour Has 22 Minutes
For the sake of comparison, here’s how they came at the topic:
This is not the first time that SNL has been accused of lifting a joke. Just last October, a Los Angeles comedy troupe criticised the show for copying a sketch based around Tina Turner‘s ‘Proud Mary’.
Whether a joke was actually lifted or it’s all just a big coincidence, SNL have not yet commented on this current incident.
