Derek Cianfrance Will Shoot His New Movie In Australia, Hopefully Brings Ryan Gosling

Internationally acclaimed Australian author M.L. Stedman’s debut novel The Light Between Oceans is to be adapted for the big screen by Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond The Pines director Derek Cianfrance, Deadline reports.

The independent American filmmaker unmarred by the curious career decision to cast Ryan Gosling in the lead role of his last two films, will direct the drama to be produced by David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford on behalf of Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks Pictures who acquired the rights to the novel last year.

The book, published last year and set in 1926 in a remote island off the coast of Western Australia, follows a lighthouse keeper and his wife who stumble upon an infant girl and a dead body in a rowboat and decide to raise the baby as their own.

Further details are yet to be announced. But as I’m sure you’re aware casting directors, Ryan Gosling is really great with babies.
