I’ll be honest, I was only interested in the trailer for this new show because my boo Chris Evans is in it. But having watched the trailer now, I can say it genuinely looks great. The series is called Defending Jacob and it’s based on the 2012 New York Times best-selling crime novel by William Landay. Hell yes.

Evans stars as assistant district attorney Andy Barber who finds himself torn between his sworn duty to uphold justice and his unconditional love for his son, Jacob – played by Evans’ Knives Out co-star Jaeden Martell – after he is accused of murdering his classmate. Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) stars as Evans’ wife, Laurie, and Cherry Jones, Pablo SchreiberBetty Gabriel, Sakina Jaffrey, and J.K. Simmons co-star. Absolute solid cast, tell ya what.

The first three episodes of the limited series will premiere exclusively on Apple TV starting Friday, April 24, and new episodes will hit the service every Friday after that. If you’re not too familiar with Apple’s streaming service, you can suss it out here. You can start a free trial for seven days, then it’ll set you back $4.99 a month.

Have at it.

“I know it’s tough not leaving the house right now, so hopefully this helps a bit,” Evans wrote on Twitter, sharing the trailer. “A lot of wonderful people worked very hard on this project and I’m proud to be part of it.”

I don’t know about you lot, but the trailer kind of gave me The Sinner vibes?

If you’re interested in adding Defending Jacob to your reading list, you can check out the first chapter on William Landay’s website right here. It’s bloody riveting already, I have absolutely added this book to my list.
