‘Deadpool’ Has Come Out Swinging, Broken Australian Box Office Records

Deadpool‘s highly creative marketing campaign, which featured everything from an amusingly piss take-y Valentines Day trailer to an endorsement from Betty White, has apparently paid off.
The thirst for Ryan Reynolds‘ raunchy superhero movie is very, very real, and the film has enjoyed a very big opening (hur-hur) across the world ahead of its American premiere
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Deadpool has broken box office records here in Australia – its Thursday debut pulled in $US 2.1M, which is our biggest opening ever for the month of February, significantly better than last year’s 50 Shades Of Grey.
Those who enjoy nerding out over box office totals may also be excited to learn that the film broke records in the Phillipines and Singapore, where it enjoyed the best debut for an R-rated and M-18 rated movie, respectively.
The good people of Belgium are apparently also partial to a bit of hetero-flexible Ryan Reynolds action, as the film enjoyed the country’s biggest premiere day haul for any movie of the superhero genre.
Deadpool has also performed well in the U.K., France, Hong Kong (where it broke Chinese New Year records) and Taiwan, and after a strong Thursday performance in the U.S., it’s estimated that the film could well take the country’s best-ever R-rated opening.
ICYMI, here’s Betty White’s endorsement of film and the “f*****g handsome” Ryan Reynolds:
