Since 1994 when Friends first started airing, there has been almost constant speculation about whether or not David Schwimmer (who played Ross) and Jennifer Aniston (who played Rachel) would get together in real life. Now, the internet thinks they finally have.
Speculations about these two taking their on-screen fling into a real-world relationship will never die on the internet, but they were intensely revived after the Friends reunion special, in which the two admitted that at the time of filming, they were crushing hard on each other.
“We were both crushing hard on each other, but it was like two ships passing. One of us was always in a relationship and we never crossed that boundary,” said Schwimmer at the reunion.
“I remember saying one time to David, ‘It’s going to be such a bummer if the first time you and I actually kiss is on national television.’ And sure enough, it was,” said Aniston.
“We just channelled all of our adoration and love for each other into Ross and Rachel.”
So there you have it. Two lovebirds, swept apart by the waves of destiny. A tragedy that has even Shakespeare shaking in his tiny little booties.
Alas, nothing ever came to fruition in the months after the reunion.
Now, there’s been some extra hot goss swung our way by UK celebrity gossip site Closer, which claims to have received revelations about the two being official from a spicy unnamed source.
Unnamed sources, they truly keep the world turning on its axis.
“After the reunion, it became clear that reminiscing over the past had stirred up feelings for both of them and that chemistry they’d always had to bury was still there,” the source told Closer.
“They began texting immediately after filming and, just last month, David flew from his home in New York to see Jen in LA.
“They’ve been spending time at Jen’s home, where she’s cooked dinners in the evenings, and have enjoyed quality time together, chatting and laughing. They were also spotted drinking wine, deep in conversation, as they walked around one of Jen’s favourite vineyards in Santa Barbara, where it was clear there was lots of chemistry between them.”
Hmmm, interesting. I dunno, maybe they’re just… friends?
Another piece of evidence that Closer points to is the fact that both of them have made posts interacting with each other on their Instagram accounts.
First came this post from Schwimmer, which tags Aniston while wearing a shirt of the two of them. Intriguing.
Then came this post from Jennifer Aniston, in which she wears a cap that says “we were so not on a break”, and has a cheeky Schwimmer tag over the cap.
Much to think about here. Is Jenvid real? Can we finally start shipping Schwimiston? Can I whip out my Davifer tee at last?
According to Deuxmoi, no. In fact, the cult gossip Insta kindly let us all know that we’re fools for ever believing such a thing, and let us down gently.
“I have it on VERY good authority that this is not true,” she wrote on her Insta story.
Well, case closed on that then. Guess the two aren’t together after all.
Deuxmoi didn’t even bother sharing her evidence with her followers, that’s how little time she had for this half-boiled tea.
Looks like the actors of Friends are trying to stay that way. Friends. Did no one tell you it was gonna be this way?
