Dave Chappelle’s Bringin’ Three New Stand-Up Specials To Netflix In 2017

Well, he’s definitely back.

A mere week after popping his head up to host Saturday Night Live, Dave Chappelle is signalling a much bigger return to television: he’s inked a deal to bring three comedy specials to Netflix in 2017.
Info on what that’ll look like is somewhat scarce on ground at the moment – but the vibe is that we’ll be a getting a brand new special co-produced with Netflix, along with a simultaneous drop of two currently unreleased (but already existing) specials on the same date.
“Dave Chappelle is a legendary voice in comedy — searing, vital, and now more than ever, essential,” said Netflix VP of original documentary and comedy Lisa Nishimura. “Dave’s three new specials promise to be some of the most anticipated events in comedy.”

This is an interesting salvo from Netflix, who are already cementing a position as a serious contender to HBO when it comes to big-name stand-ups dropping fresh specials. Dave Chappelle – as one of the greatest comedians alive – is something of a get.
It’ll be good to see whether Dave can keep up the momentum. Comedy buffs have duly noted that he hasn’t quite got the same spark as he did at his peak – but we also haven’t seen a proper special from him in 12 years. Let’s see how this goes.
