There’s A New ‘Dark Crystal’ Board Game Coming And We Urgently Need To Play It

When board game night rolls around, there are those of us who enjoy settling into a deep, hours-long strategic campaign, and those of us who are more in it for the chance to indulge our inner children and play around with cute miniatures.

If like me, you’re more the second type, then you’ll be excited to learn that there’s a game coming next year based on the ’80s Jim Henson classic The Dark Crystal, with artwork that looks gorgeous as heck and various cute figures to fight over.

Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal: Board Game comes to you from River Horse Games, the same people who brought you Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: The Board Game back in 2016, and the components and overall style look pretty similar.

Much like the Labyrinth game, there are four playable characters, represented by detailed miniatures – this time it’s Gelflings Jen and Kira, and Skeksis Chamberlain and The Garthim Master.

River Horse have released detailed photos of the game pieces, including Kira, who comes complete with her sidekick Fizzgig. How could you not want to play with this?

The level of detail on these things is pretty great.

The game, like the film, is based around Jen and Kira’s quest to find a shard and heal the Dark Crystal. Two to four people can play, and per the River Horse website, it’s due for release in “early 2018.”

You can find out more about it here and check out the Labyrinth game here. Frankly, we can’t wait to get some prime ’80s movie nostalgia into our next game night, so bring it on.
