Dark Comedy About Dead Grandmother Wins Tropfest

Beloved short film festival Tropfest, was held overnight in Sydney, where a small but dedicated group of fans braved extreme weather conditions and lightning strikes to check out young Aussie filmmaking talent.

This year’s winner was Julian Lucas‘s Granny Smith, a dark comedy about a dead grandmother, which was chosen by a jury including the likes of Margaret Pomeranz. You can watch it right now, below:
Pomeranz said that she wanted to be “amused and moved by big ideas with small budgets,” and frankly, if it has the Pomeranz seal of approval, we’re in.
The 27-year-old Lucas is now off to Los Angeles. If you missed last night’s broadcast, you can watch all the finalists now on Tropfest’s YouTube channel.
