‘Daria’ Has Landed A 2017 Update & Yr Sardonic Pal Is Living Her Best Life

Think about it. Radiohead’s OK Computer burst into the world in all its cold, screeching glory; the Nintendo 64 hit Australian stores and shook up a nascent gaming industry; and Daria moped and quipped her way onto screens for the very first time.

To celebrate that last milestone, Daria’s creator Susie Lewis and character designer Karen Disher have taken over from countless Tumblr artistes, to deliver what they really think Daria Morgendorffer and her sardonic pals would look like, two decades later.

The Morgendorffer parents? Well, pretty much as you’d expect. They’re still alive. They go on cruises. They’re “breaking a sweat in their weekly dance class.” They’re boring, still, which was their purpose on the show anyway.

Younger sis Quinn apparently has triplets now, and a YouTube channel dedicated to dessert and skin care called S’mores and Pores. Brittany is doin’ okay for herself too, is happily wed to ol’ mate Kevin, and teaches cheerleading at local Lawndale High.

As for the fun ones: Trent is living on royalties from a 90s one-hit-wonder, and supplements that dosh with a bartending gig in NYC. Jane Lane is an artist in SoHo, obviously, and got hitched to an archaeologist. So, that’s cool.

As for Daria: Lewis reckons “the sardonic teen has left the suburbs of Lawndale for New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen (naturally), where she’s grown up to become the only female writer on a late-night talk show.”

She lives with a cat named Godzilla. She’s tried online dating, but come on, it obviously hasn’t worked out for her yet. Essentially, she’s living her life on her terms, which is all we could have hoped for.

The creators reckon they’d love to bring the show back, but come on. Just like the N64, some things are better left in our memories.

Except OK Computer, that shit still rules.
