The Academy Awards ceremony has barely been on for an hour and we’ve already gotten one of the best acceptance speeches of this year’s awards. Taking out his nominated award, Daniel Kaluuya took his time at the Oscars microphone to thank everyone that’s helped get him to where he is today, including his parents.
He literally thanked his mum and dad for fucking, and creating him.
Kaluuya picked up the gong for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Judas And The Black Messiah, and started off his acceptance speech by thanking his mother, who was in the crowd alongside his sister.

“I’d like to thank my mum,” Kaluuya said.
“You gave me everything. You gave me your factory settings. So I could stand at my fullest height.”
But as he warmed up in his speech, he ended it by thanking both his parents for quite literally giving him life.
“It’s incredible. My mum met my dad, they had sex,” he said, as the theatre erupted into laughter.
“It’s amazing, you know what I’m saying? Then I’m here! I’m so happy to be alive.”
Full credit to the production team here who had a live camera on his mum and sister in the audience, which quickly flicked to them as he dropped this absolute heater of a thank-you. His sister immediately put her head in her hands in embarrassment, while his mother looks so confused before clearly saying “what’s he going on about?”
I’m HOWLING.
It’s art, it’s perfection. It’s absolutely everything I wanted from a pandemic-era awards ceremony. Who gives a shit! Have fun! Thank your parents for fucking around and finding out!!
Daniel Kaluuya had one (1) chance to be up on that Oscars stage with everyone watching him give his acceptance speech, and my god he took it and ran.
You simply have to respect it.
