Daniel Askill To Make Directorial Debut For Lionsgate

It’s been a fruitful few weeks for Sydney’s prodigiously talented Askill brood. Following news of a seven piece Topshop collaboration with London based jewelery designer Jordan Askill (interview here), filmmaker brother Daniel Askill (interview here) has been given the keys to his first feature film courtesy of Lionsgate.

Askill will direct an Aron Eli Coleite adaptation of Rick Yancey’s science fiction short story When First We Were Gods, the synopsis for which, per Deadline, sounds pretty fucking amazing: “Humanity has achieved immortality, but it is only available to an extraordinarily wealthy elite. While it is very common for people in the elite to marry and divorce, a man conspires to murder his immortal wife so that his mortal mistress can take her place – thus her immortality. Along the way comes the realization that mortality may well render the experience of love impossible.”

Askill’s previous clients have included Sia, These New Puritans, AnOther Magazine, The Sydney Dance Company, Dior, Acne, Unkle, Placebo and Digitalism. Watch his hypnotic short film, We Have Decided Not To Die, below.
