Dan Harmon Says Yahoo Might Just Be Silly Enough To Make The Community Movie

After proving a while ago that we are not, in fact, on the darkest timeline, it’s looking more and more likely that Yahoo! is going to be the hashtag fulfillers that we’ve been looking for all these years.

With Community‘s sixth season gearing up to premiere via streaming service Yahoo Screen on March 17th (HOLY SHIT THAT’S TOMORROW, YOU GUYS) the crew and cast have been hard at work on the promotional trail pimping the living shit out of it.
The gang are currently all up in SXSW‘s face – the annual music, TV, film convention that takes over Austin, Texas, and represents my own personal mecca that I will one day get to mark my goddamned words. After holding what looked to be, by all accounts, a totally balls-out fun “Greendale School Dance” party, show creator Dan Harmon moderated a panel that featured much of the principle cast of the season, including Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Ken Jeong, Jim Rash, newcomers Paget Brewster and Keith David, and show executive producer Chris McKenna.
Production of the season is still on-going, two episodes will still be in production when the season premieres, meaning that its release is going to follow a more traditional week-by-week schedule, rather than follow the Netflix “All at Once” model.
Questions from the crowd ranged from the usual field of superfan questions, but a lot of the discussion revolved around how accommodating Yahoo! have been in the production of the season. The general consensus? Very. Alison Brie confirmed as much.

“Everyone from Yahoo who visits is like, ‘We get it. Just do your thing.’ It’s so refreshing. The vibe has been so fun.”

But it’s when Harmon began talking in typical caustic, vague style about the possibility of Yahoo! filling the other half of the much vaunted #sixseasonsandamovie equation and bringing Community to the big screen that things got really interesting/hyperventilatingly exciting.

“Yahoo seems down for just about anything. I don’t know why they’d turn their nose up to a movie about a low-rated show. They seem to be very naive.”

Whilst, obviously, that’s nothing to be read into in any great depth, being an off-handed quip made at a fan panel by a man who thrives on publicity and the moss-gathering stone of fan appreciation and, like a methadone patient, will say anything to get his hands on either. But a much smarter and rational way to react would be to go ahead and assume that it’s actually going to happen and now I’m going to immediately sell everything I own and go and stake out the theatre in Los Angeles that hasn’t been booked for the premiere of a film that hasn’t been made yet.

It’s all happening, people!
Community’s sixth season premieres via Yahoo Screen on Wednesday, March 18th (AGAIN, THAT’S THIS WEEK OH MAN) Australian time. We don’t have a legal way of getting involved in Yahoo Screen out here. But fortunately for all y’all, local streaming service Stan is premiering the season at exactly the same rate, and at roughly the same time.
And yes, there’s going to be a paintball episode.

*squeeeeeee!*
