Confirmed: Chris Rock Is Going To Host The 2016 Oscars

Comedian, actor, producer, director, Saturday Night Live veteran and all-round talented human being Chris Rock took to Twitter early this morning to announce his return as Oscars host for the 2016 Academy Awards.

“I’m so glad to be hosting the Oscars,” he said in a statement. “It’s great to be back.”

Academy Awards producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin seem absolutely stoked to have him back, saying in a joint statement that he’ll be “a phenomenal Oscar host!”

“Chris Rock is truly the MVP of the entertainment industry,” they said. “Comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, documentarian – he’s done it all.”

That includes ticking a few people off with his riff on Jude Law when he hosted the awards in 2005:

“You want Tom Cruise and all you can get is Jude Law?” he said. “Wait. It’s not the same thing. Who is Jude Law? Why is he in every movie I have seen the last four years? He’s in everything. Even the movies he’s not acting in. If you look at the credits, he made cupcakes or something. He’s in everything. He’s gay, he’s straight, he’s American, he’s British – next year, he’s playing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in a movie.”

Eh, this guy approves anyway, and you could say he knows a LI-I-I-TTLE something about hosting shit.

As a taster of hopefully glorious things to come, get around his 2005 opening monologue:
