Coles Isn’t Chill With Miranda Kerr’s Nude Cover, Pulls It From Shelves

Coles has evidently decided that they’re not totally okay with Miranda Kerr getting nekked on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Australia, and have pulled thousands of copies of the mag from its now more-SFW shelves.

Their explanation for this exxy decision lies in not knowing about the nudity ahead of time.

“Harper’s Bazaar is a fashion magazine, therefore, we weren’t aware that the current edition would contain nudity,” a spokesperson told PEDESTRIAN.TV. “Once we were aware, we assessed the appropriateness of this particular edition given that we are a family business. We felt the best thing to do would be to remove it from stores, therefore we issued a withdrawal.”

Naturally, Harper’s Bazaar is “disappointed” in this decision, despite mags w/ nude covers running the risk of getting pulled from stores.

“The cover is a beautiful artistic image taken by one of Australia‘s best photographers Steven Chee and I stand by that,” editor-in-chief Kellie Hush, who earlier this month said the shot “will become iconic”, told P.TV.

“I have had so much positive feedback from around the globe, it’s a shame Coles does not also recognise the artistic integrity of this image.

“As Gloria Steinem says: ‘The human body is not obscene’.”

In August this year, Coles made the decision to permanently pull lads mag / then-sinking ship Zoo Weekly from its shelves in response to a campaign started by 23-year-old graphic designer Laura Pintur. The following month Bauer closed the title completely, to the despair of no-one.

“The demise of provocative mens’ magazines has been a long time coming and Bazaar is in no way looking to fill that slot,” said Hush. “We’re now living in an era of Victoria’s Secret Angels, stolen nude photos and attempts to break the internet with reality stars in provocative poses. This isn’t the same thing. Harper’s Bazaar has long celebrated the daring woman – someone with vision, commitment, style – and a total lack of fear. Miranda may be naked by she’s a trailblazer and this cover celebrates this.”
