Coen Brothers Release ‘Inside Lewyn Davis’ Trailer

So the Coen brothers don’t appear to be mellowing with age if the trailer for Inside Lewyn Davis is anything to go by. Sure, the story of the Sixties-era Greenwich village folk scene might sound like a leisurely exercise in nostalgia but the Coen Brothers’ take on Oscar Issac’s downtrodden troubadour is brimming with their trademark eccentric wry humor. And John Goodman is in it.

While there is a distinct lack of death by woodchipper, the writing for the trailer is razor sharp with more zingers crammed into two minutes than most writers can manage for an entire film. Carry Mulligan’s ex-wife “you should be wearing condom on condom and then wrap it in electrical tape” jibe is a standout, and Goodman owns it any time he’s on screen. Seriously, John Goodman… He must have been bad in something but I haven’t seen it.

Inside Lewyn Davis also stars Justin Timberlake who’s sporting an excellent/creepy beard. The film hasn’t secured a US distributor yet (?) but we can expect the film to drop later in the year.
