Despite their feuds over the years, Christina Aguilera has published a lengthy open letter with her thoughts on Britney Spears‘ ongoing conservatorship, calling it “the most depleting, devastating and demeaning thing imaginable.”
Following Britney’s big moment in court in late June, 40-year-old Christina gave her perspective on the situation that her old Mickey Mouse Club co-star, as an outsider looking in on the restrictions Britney has been living under since 2008.
“These past few days I’ve been thinking about Britney and everything she’s going through,” she wrote in an initial tweet on Tuesday morning, alongside a photo of her and Britney when they were in their teens.
“It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish.”

Christina went on to write the way her family and close network has treated her is “nothing to be taken lightly”, because of the “harmful mental and emotional damage this can take on a human spirit”.
To be silenced, ignored, bullied or denied support by those “close” to you is the most depleting, devastating and demeaning thing imaginable. The harmful mental and emotional damage this can take on a human spirit is nothing to be taken lightly.

She also stressed that women should have autonomy over their bodies and what they want to do with them, clearly nodding at the allegation that Britney has been forced to keep an IUD contraceptive in despite wanting to have more children.
Every woman must have the right to her own body, her own reproductive system, her own privacy, her own space, her own healing and her own happiness.

“While I’m not behind the closed doors of this very layered & personal yet public conversation – all I can do is share from my heart on what I’ve heard, read and seen in the media,” Christina continued.
“The conviction and desperation of this plea for freedom leads me to believe that this person I once knew has been living without compassion or decency from those in control.”
WOOF. That’s probably some of the biggest slamming we’ve seen from Christina since the boxing ring scene in the video clip for ‘Dirrrty‘.
Christina closed out her thoughts by saying that her heart goes out to Britney, stressing that she deserves all the true love and support in the world – possibly nodding to the global #FreeBritney movement, who have been relentlessly petitioning for changes in her conservatorship for years.
To a woman who has worked under conditions and pressure unimaginable to most, I promise you she deserves all of the freedom possible to live her happiest life.
My heart goes out to Britney. She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world. ????

Many other stars have made comments and statements about Britney’s conservatorship situation following the hearing, including ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, and sister Jamie Lynn Spears, who finally broke her silence on the whole conservatorship ordeal through Instagram stories.
