Christine Diane Teigen, more commonly known as Chrissy Teigen, has deleted her Twitter, citing the need for a mental health break away from the app.
Chrissy Teigen has often been incredibly online, sharing multiple stages of her life with us on her social media accounts, including the gut-wrenching news of her miscarriage in October last year. However, on Thursday, she sent out a bunch of tweets to address Twitter’s toll on her mental health, essentially saying goodbye to her fans on the app.
Teigen also changed her Twitter bio to read “de-motivational speaker” before deleting her account.
So Chrissy Teigen deleted her account. So basically a woman of color who is grieving the loss of a child and simply wanted to share funny thoughts and yummy recipes was bullied to such an extreme that she had to leave in order to protect her mental health. “Hey. For over 10 years, you guys have been my world,” Teigen’s first tweet read.
“I honestly owe so much to this world we have created here. I truly consider so many of you my actual friends.
“But it’s time for me to say goodbye. This no longer serves me as positively as it serves me negatively, and I think that’s the right time to call something.”
Teigen has been on Twitter since 2009, and has often become a viral sensation, whether she intended it or not.
In February this year, she became a talking point on Twitter after casually sharing the fact that she dropped $13K on a bottle of wine and didn’t even finish it. In trying to share a fun story about her life, she instead unintentionally created a vantage point for the internet to make fun of her and her wealth.
This is but one example of a moment in which Teigen has received backlash for, quite frankly, just existing.
“I encourage you to know and never forget that your words matter,” Teigen continued.
“For years I have taken so many small, 2-follower count punches that at this point, I am honestly deeply bruised.”
“God, I have said fucked up shit and killed myself over it as much as you killed me. But one thing I haven’t learned is how to block out the negativity,” she wrote.
“I’m just a sensitive shit, okay!? I don’t wanna be this way! I just am! But I love you guys and I cherish our time together, I truly do. I also hate you.”
After this line of tweets, Teigen sent out a heart, and completely nuked her account.
In some small piece of reassurance that she is in fact okay, however, she has still been active on Instagram, posting stories throughout the day.
Honestly, a big congrats to Teigen for leaving Twitter. It is truly a hellscape that none of us need.
