Chris Sebastian Does A Guy Sebastian, Makes Public Chastity Pledge

During the first season of that largely successful, nationally captivating singing contest Australian Idol, a bouffant Guy Sebastian made national headlines with his very public pledge that he would remain a virgin until his wedding night. Now, almost a decade later and during the first season of that other largely successful, nationally captivating singing contest The Voice Australia, Guy Sebastian 2.0, Chris Sebastian, has made the exact same (and perhaps totally unnecessarily public) chastity pledge to remain a virgin until marriage.

Speaking with The Daily Telegraph, Sebastian said he had no qualms with doing the same thing his older brother did in 2003, saying, “It’s definitely something I feel really strongly about and it’s how I choose to live my life but I would never say that it is right or wrong by any means. It’s just the thing that works for me.

I’m passionate about it and it’s important to me. But I’m not the sort of person to say that it’s right or it’s for everyone. It’s just something that’s right for me.”

First and foremost, kudos to Chris for having the Guys guts to make a strong public declaration of his passion and by extension his faith, and for acknowledging that his decision isn’t for everyone. That shows some real blue balls considering the potential for backlash in a competition where popularity plays a considerable part alongside talent in your longevity up in that LED arena of wind machines and ill-advised wardrobe choices.

But for somebody who (when not singing) seems to be spending a lot of time shrugging of insinuations of nepotism (lite!) and dismissing comparisons with your brother, why then make public: a) the exact same thing your brother did at the exact same point in the (for all intents and purposes) same competition, and b) something as admittedly intimate and private as your virginity. For a decision that he acknowledges isn’t for everyone, he still finds it necessary to share it with everyone at the same time.

I can’t help but think there has to be some ulterior motive in making a kinda unnecessary public statement pertaining to this; perhaps he’s just lobbying for the church-going and maternal votes from The Voice’s church-going mothers, or using the show as the country’s most viewed dating profile. Either way, Chris Sebastian’s cherry is up for grabs y’all! Awesome.
