Chris Pratt Reveals Struggles With Weight Left Him “Fatigued And Depressed”

Most people got to know Chris Pratt as the affable, husky Andy Dwyer on Parks And Recreation, which is why it was such a surprise when the following post appeared on his Instagram two years ago:

Six months no beer. #GOTG Kinda douchey to post this but my brother made me.

Pratt is undoubtedly fairly shredded these days, but in an interview with Men’s Health UK for the upcoming July edition, he revealed that the drastic changes in his weight over the course of his career have taken their toll, both physically and psychologically.
He told the magazine that he intentionally stacked on weight for his role as Andy Dwyer. “I announced it to the whole cast, and then it became a bit of a game: how fat can I get and how fast,” he said.
“I would eat four burgers at every read. I became really fat and got up to almost 300lb (136 kilos).” He said that after a while, this routine left him feeling “impotent, fatigued and emotionally depressed.”
“I put on weight because I’d fallen in love with a woman who loved to feed her man,” he added, referring to Anna Faris, the other half of his pretty-much-ideal Hollywood coupling.
“I was her little Hansel out in the woods and she was fattening me up to put me in the fire. It was like Momma Bear and Papa Bear. She would eat a little bit, I would eat all of mine and the rest of hers.”
After initially losing weight for Moneyball, Pratt put some back on for Parks And Recreation, but after Zero Dark Thirty, he realised that yo-yo dieting was leading to “real health issues that were affecting me in a major way.”
“When I was fat and unhappy, the only moments of respite I got were when I was eating,” Pratt said. “Now mealtimes are sometimes lame, because that’s the way it can be when you’re eating healthily. But all the time between meals, I feel great.”
A few years ago, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia star Rob ‘Mac’ McIlhenney intentionally gained 50lbs for the show, and gave a revealing interview to fellow comedian Nick Kroll after the fact.
Chris Pratt’s Jurassic World is out Thursday June 11 in Australia, which is really, really soon.
