Chris Hemsworth Will Be In ‘Star Trek’ 4, Doubling The Number Of Chrises

Star Trek Beyond, the third film in the rebooted Star Trek franchise, has yet to hit cinemas. That said, there’s already a fourth one in the works, and overnight, producer J.J. Abrams revealed that Chris Hemsworth will be returning to the series.
Hemsworth played George Kirk, father to Chris Pyne‘s James T. Kirk, in the 2009 Star Trek. In case you missed that one, his character died heroically in the opening minutes, saving his wife and newborn child.
Given how high Hemsworth’s star has risen since the first film, it makes total sense to have him return. The writers would appear to have quite a task ahead of them in bringing him back, but whatever they go with, it will probably involve time travel.
The real question is whether his character will come back as a hero or a villain. Pitting Captain Kirk against his dad seems exactly like something the rebooted Star Trek would do, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
Two of the Big Four Chrises ain’t bad, but if Abrams can somehow convince Chris PrattChris Evans or both to jump on board for this next one, they’ll have a guaranteed smash on their hands.
Overnight, it was reported that Amazon CEO and long-time Star Trek fan Jeff Bezos has a cameo in Beyond, playing the role of a Starfleet official. Said Chris Pine of the surprise guest star:
“I was there for the bit with his, like, nine bodyguards and three limos. It was really intense. I had no idea who he was. Not a clue. But he was obviously very important.”
Star Trek Beyond is in cinemas locally on Thursday July 21.
