Chris Hemsworth Was Nervous As Hell To Meet ‘Thor’ Villain Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett and Chris Hemsworth share the cover of Vogue Australia‘s November issue, and look, cards on the table here, the retouching job on this bad boy looks a little … rough. The two of them appear to be lit completely differently, with his hand overlaid haphazardly and hers assuming a slightly odd shape on the poolside.

To be fair, this is just an image they shared on Instagram, so the final version might well look more polished when it hits newsstands in print form. Still, it’s a bit of an odd intro to a very cute story about these two dead-set bloody Aussie legend meeting for the first time while shooting the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok.

Amazingly enough, the two had never crossed paths before, and Chris Hemsworth admitted that he was nervous as hell to meet Blanchett, who plays Hela, the villain of the piece. He told the publication:

“It was sort of intimidating at first. Especially the lead-up to meeting her, I was like: ‘Okay, this is Cate Blanchett’ … My nerves were certainly more elevated than usual. No matter how many times I tell myself: ‘I’m the lead, I’m the number one on the call sheet’, it still feels like I shouldn’t be; it feels like I’ve cheated somehow. I remember trying to talk myself into feeling better about it, like: ‘Cate Blanchett is coming onto my set’, ‘It’s my film, I’m Thor’ and then another part of me is like: ‘None of that matters!’ But then she comes in and immediately I thought: ‘Oh great, she is wonderful and normal and easy to get along with, and hilarious and has a great sense of humour and all of that.’”

Blanchett was slightly more circumspect about her co-star, saying:

“Chris really led the tone of the set – he’s a genuine leading man in that role. From the minute I met him, I knew it was going to be great.”

The Taika Waititi-directed Thor: Ragnarok, which is earning praise as one of the funniest superheroes ever made, with Australian screenings commencing from Wednesday October 25. Vogue’s November issue hits stands Monday October 30.
