Chris Evans Really Wants To Do A Musical & We’re Absolutely Here For It

Chris Evans

When Chris Evans isn’t too busy saving the world as Captain America, he’s trying to score a gig in musicals.

And, he can apparently sing too. The more you know.

In a new profile with The Hollywood ReporterEvans discussed life after the Avengers, his new projects, his presence on social media – particularly Twitter – and his hopes to start directing more.

His directorial debut Before We Go – he stars in it too – is an alright indie romance that got absolutely torn to shreds by the critics. Evans says he’s “OK with making mistakes” and “I learned a lot from that one”.

But aside from all this, Evans is super duper passionate about musical theatre and took part in a bunch of plays when he was a wee lad. His mother, Lisa Evans, is the executive director of Concord Youth Theatre which explains quite a lot.

Evans was such a musical head, he and his family would perform impromptu musicals at Christmas gatherings, he told THR. And all that wholesome goodness has fuelled his ultimate career goals.

“I want to do a musical so badly, man,” he told THR. “Someone told me they’re [remaking] Little Shop of Horrors and I was like, ‘Oh, can I be down? Please? Can I be the dentist?’

“When I first came out here, early 2000s, there were rumblings about Spielberg maybe doing West Side Story. That’s one of my favourite musicals,” he continued. “I did it when I was in high school. And obviously he’s doing it now, and I called my team and they were like, Chris — maybe Krupke. You can’t. You’re too old. It’s so hard to hear.”

Someone get the man a bloody musical. Netflix, Disney +, anyone.

In the meantime, Evans’ lil’ side project – by the name of Avengers: Endgame hits cinemas April 24.

Speaking of which, the actor also mentioned he’s seen “like, the first hour” of Endgame and described it as a “real good one.”
