Chopper Read and Ron Jeremy Star in Aussie Indie Feature

Chris Mitchell and Yoav Lester’s Start Options Exit may not be Australia’s next break-out hit – it probably won’t even get a cinematic release, but with the 25-day shoot in the can and an eclectic cast including Ron Jeremy and Chopper Read, it’s fair to say that they have our attention.

It is a satirical exploration of Generation Y, following the
misadventures of two wayward twenty somethings as they glide through
their own primal instincts and cruel intentions, circumventing morality
and social convention in a world where selfishness is the motivation and
there are no consequences. “

We’re not here to piss on anyone’s dreams but their a few glaring issues we need to address before we continue. The promo videointended only for our crowd funding project and does not reflect the true production value of the final film” is downright sub-film school awful. The synopsis hints at two leads with few redeeming qualities who’ll need a ridiculously impressive joke rate to justify spending 90 minutes of our lives with them, and the best thing Chopper Read had to say about the project was “I’ll star in anyone’s movies as long as they pay me. I have to support my wife and kids.” But that’s not say the film shouldn’t see the light of day.

Crowd funding certainly has its drawbacks. In Mitchell and Lester’s case, they’ve had to punch out the the obligatory supplementary material (hopefully) not indicative of the rest of the project. What would have become of Sam Rami if he had spin out some lame off-the-cuff call for cash while filming Evil Dead, or if Robert Rodríguez had to sell his vision for El Mariachi to the Pozible crowd. Low budget, Mexican revenge actioner shot entirely in Spanish? Doesn’t look too impressive on paper.

Mitchell and Lester seem to be self-aware enough to realise that they are shooting for cult status, which is perfect because cult films can get away with being shit in many ways as long as there are a few good ideas tying it all together. I can think of at least three recent Hollywood blockbusters that were far worse than anything Mitchell and Lester will manage, and they’re just the ones starring Adam Sandler. If the chance to see Chopper and the Hedgehog in the same film has peaked your interest, Start Option Exit requires $12 000 for post production. Check out their Pozible account for further details. At the the very least, it will be interesting to see the movie that was nearly Ron Jeremy’s last.
